Pennsylvania governor extends HOS for some gasoline haulers

HARRISBURG, Pa., — At the direction of Gov. Edward G. Rendell, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E. April 24 announced a temporary relaxation in Hoursof Service requirements for gasoline tanker drivers in Philadelphia and Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

The governor's order will allow gasoline haulers in those counties to operate for 14 hours, or three hours more then their normal maximum.

A temporary supply shortage is affecting some independent service stations in the Philadelphia area. Commercial haulers are experiencing extended wait times at distribution points. The extra hours will allow these haulers the time necessary to meet the demands of retail outlets.

The waiver, similar to one granted in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, is in effect from April 21 until midnight on April 26. The waiver applies to intrastate and interstate commercial drivers hauling gasoline to retail establishments in the five-county Philadelphia area.
