LITTLE ROCK — American truckers overwhelmingly agree — allowing Mexican trucks to transport goods into the U.S. beyond the traditional commercial zone is not a popular program.

Participating in the first poll question on the new expanded Web site www.thetrucker.com, 87.9 percent of the respondents answered “yes” to the question “Do you think allowing Mexican trucks to transport goods to America will hurt your income?”

Almost 400 responded to the poll after the new site went “live” late Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The expanded site will include poll questions that are relevant to the trucking industry as well as general interest questions.

This current poll deals with the Hours of Service and asks the question “What do you think are the maximum number of hours a trucker should be allowed to drive within any given 24-hour period?

There are four possible answers: 8, 10, 11 or more than 11.

The poll is located on the Home page at the bottom of the left-hand column.

A federal court in July overturned portions of the current rule, including the 11-hour driving time and the 34-hour restart rule. The court's decision is to become effective Friday, Sept. 14.
