SILVER PLUME, Colo. — U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass has been closed because of a fuel leak, forcing extra truck traffic onto nearby Interstate 70 and causing huge traffic jams.
Highway crews are periodically closing the Eisenhower Tunnel to most vehicles so trucks carrying hazardous cargo can go through with no other traffic. Those trucks normally use Loveland Pass.
The tunnel shutdowns have backed up traffic for two miles on either side.
Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Bob Wilson says snow and wind on Loveland Pass has slowed down the cleanup. He couldn't say when the work would be done.
