PERRY, Kan. — Food safety inspectors will check hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies that were in an 18-wheeler that overturned on a Kansas highway.
Kansas troopers said the tractor trailer was westbound on U.S. 24 northwest of Lawrence Tuesday when it went out of control on a curve and overturned. Troopers said 54-year-old James Tangard of Danville, Ky., was going too fast for conditions.
Tangard was injured and was transported to a Topeka hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Kansas Agriculture Department spokeswoman Lisa Taylor said the trailer remained intact, and that the cookies were in their individual boxes packed inside larger cartons.
She said inspectors were planning Wednesday to inspect the cookies to be sure they’re safe to eat.
