YRC Worldwide subsidiary announces layoffs

The Associated Press

10/16/2008

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A subsidiary of one of the country's biggest trucking companies is laying off 200 workers in Edwardsville, Ill., and St. Louis.

YRC Logistics says the affected workers have been offered jobs with another service provider.

YRC's corporate parent is Overland Park, Kan.-based YRC Worldwide, which is a Fortune 500 company with 60,000 employees. Its holdings also include Yellow Transportation, Roadway and USF Holland, which operates a distribution center in Edwardsville.

YRC Worldwide has lowered its earnings predictions for the third quarter as further economic weakness drags down volumes and prices.
