Bendix plans to acquire SmartTire Systems

ELYRIA, Ohio — Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, a North American affiliate of Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse AG, plans to acquire SmarTire Systems Inc. for an undisclosed amount, the company said Sunday. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, SmarTire develops and markets advanced tire-monitoring solutions, plus wireless sensing and control systems for commercial vehicles.

The transaction terms are expected to be finalized during the fourth quarter of 2008 and are subject to corporate approvals, Bendix said.

SmarTire offers large fleet, commercial, bus, and recreational vehicles patent-protected, before- and after-market wireless technologies and advanced tire-monitoring solutions using its proprietary SmartWave platform.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems develops and supplies active safety technologies, air brake charging, and control systems and components under the Bendix brand name for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, and other commercial vehicles throughout North America.
