Diesel dips below $3 for first time since September 2007

The last time the diesel average for the U.S. dropped below the $3 mark was Sept. 17, 2007, when it hit $2.964.

The weekly retail on-highway diesel price average today dropped $0.144 per gallon to $2.944, a price that is a whopping $0.481 less than the same week one year ago.

The last time the diesel average for the U.S. dropped below the $3 mark was Sept. 17, 2007, when it hit $2.964. The all time record high per gallon was reached just a few months ago. On July 14 the record high price was $4.764 and has continued to drop every week with the exception for one increase of $0.001 on Sept. 29.

Some regions still averaged more than $3, including the East Coast ($3.060), New England ($3.266), and the Central Atlantic region ($3.203).

Every region showed a decrease in price per gallon.

California’s average price per gallon today was $2.913, down $0.144 from last week, and $0.750 from the same week one year ago.
