BRIDGE CITY, Texas — ProMiles, a routing and fuel management company, has announced the creation of FuelSurchargeIndex.org to provide users with average retail fuel prices along a specific route update to within the most recent 24 hours.

“Smaller carriers and owner-operators often face difficulties negotiating adequate fuel surcharges into their freight rates,” said Tony Stroncheck, chairman, CEO and president, sales and marketing at ProMiles. “Their task is made more difficult because the Department of Energy’s weekly national retail price average – the industry standard for calculating fuel surcharges – does not provide the actual retail prices along particular routes. The DOE estimates the nationwide average price once a week by surveying a limited number of fueling locations.”

While users can calculate the fuel price along a specific lane free of charge, premium services are also available on a subscription basis at varying levels.

Premium services include the ability to calculate a fuel surcharge based on a specific trigger point, mpg and routing method.

A simple-to-use fuel surcharge contract template, applicable in most if not all jurisdictions, is also available.

Subscribers can also see the truck stops along the route, access historical fuel price data, view state breakdowns, export data or even access a direct interface to third party applications.
