PIERRE, S.D. — The state weigh station at Tilford, between Rapid City and Sturgis on Interstate 90, has reopened.

The Tilford Port of Entry was relocated in April to the Highway 79 scale at Rapid City while Interstate 90 was under construction.

South Dakota ports of entry are used to inspect trucks and other commercial vehicles for safety, check that the drivers meet safety regulations, and ensure against road damage by overloaded vehicles.

The state has four ports of entry. They are located at Jefferson, Sioux Falls, Sisseton, and Tilford.

About 700,000 trucks visit the ports each year.
