Federal funds sought for flood repairs in Indiana

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Local governments in northwestern Indiana are seeking more than $4 million in federal aid to repair bridges, roads and other structures damaged by flooding in September.
President Bush declared a federal disaster area because of flooding that began Sept. 14.
Officials from Lake and Porter county communities attended a meeting Wednesday with state and federal emergency management officials on how to file claims for assistance.
Munster is seeking more than $2 million for debris cleanup, emergency protective measures and building repairs.
The Lake County Highway Department says it needs $945,000, including $425,000 to repair a bridge over the Grand Calumet River.
Homeowners and small businesses also may qualify for aid.
