The Associated Press

12/18/2008

MISSOULA, Mont. — A volunteer firefighter is dead after a tractor-trailer crashed into his vehicle while he was responding to a wreck on Interstate 90 near Haugan, Mont.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported that Jerry Parrick, 59, of Haugan, was responding to a single-vehicle wreck involving minor injuries.

Chief Bruce Charles of the West End Volunteer Fire and Rescue in Mineral County identified the Parrick.

The state patrol said Parrick was in his pickup truck with his emergency lights flashing when the 18-wheeler slid and jackknifed on the snow-covered road just after noon Wednesday.

Parrick's truck was hit and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
