WASHINGTON — The average on-highway retail price of a gallon of diesel dropped yet another 10 cents to $2.515 for the week ending Dec. 8, the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy reported today.

The price marks a fall of 47.2 percent since the week ending July 14 when the average price reached $4.764 during the height of the oil price boom.

The price is also 81 cents lower than for the comparable period one year ago.

It is the lowest average price since the week ending Feb. 19, 2007, when the average cost was $2.491.

In a continuing oddity, the West Coast, which prior to the most recent period of decline had the highest averages in the nation, showed the lowest averages for the period ending Dec. 8. California led the way with an average of $2.402 a gallon.

The highest average was in the New England states at $2.849.

All regions reported a decline from the previous week with California leading the way at 13.6 cents.
