PHILADELPHIA — Get ready for delays if you use the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is about to begin a 19-month project to repair two important bridges on I-76 near the University Avenue interchange.
Work will begin on March 10 to repair the aging, rusty bridges that span the Schuykill River at Grey's Ferry Avenue and 34th Street.
That is an area that is congested on normal days, but with construction under way, traffic tie-ups are expected to be even worse.
PennDOT's Lester Toaso says two lanes will remain open in each direction on the expressway except during overnight hours and on 12 weekends.
PennDOT says it will try to avoid shutdowns and restrictions on busy weekends at the sports stadiums in South Philadelphia.
