DETROIT — A 1.5-mile stretch of Interstate 75 in southwest Detroit will be closed for construction for the next two years.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says I-75 between Rosa Parks Boulevard and Clark Street closed early Feb. 25 as part of the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project.
Spokeswoman Brenda Peek says MDOT invested $230 million into the project.
I-75 is scheduled to reopen in December 2009.
The project includes reconstructed freeways, a new interchange for I-75 and I-96 and a redesigned plaza for the Ambassador Bridge.
The bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, will remain open.
