1.5 miles of I-65 to close for 9 months

GARY, Ind. — Construction will close a 1.5-mile section of Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana for about nine months starting March 1.

The stretch of roadway connects I-80/94 to the Indiana Toll Road.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says the project will include the reconstruction of I-65 where it crosses I-80/94.

Spokesman Joshua Bingham says that by closing the roadway, construction will be completed in half the time.

The $46 million project is being paid for through the state's Major Moves fund.
