WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Federal regulators say UPS has paid $254,000 to an upstate New York mechanic who was fired by the delivery carrier after complaining about unsafe trucks.
The former worker filed complaints with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration alleging violations of federal whistleblower laws. In December, OSHA told UPS it had found merit to the mechanic’s complaints.
OSHA says after receiving its findings, UPS elected to settle the case with the Watertown-area man. In agreeing to the settlement, UPS neither admitted nor denied the original allegations.
