BISMARCK, N.D. — Work is planned on about 685 miles of state roads this year, with six bridges in the state to be replaced, officials say.
Francis Ziegler, the director of the state Transportation Department, said nearly $300 million will be invested in about 225 road construction and maintenance projects.
Work continues on two major projects: a four-lane U.S. Highway 2 from Minot to Williston, and the Liberty Memorial Bridge between Bismarck and Mandan. The new Missouri River bridge is expected to start carrying traffic in August.
Other projects include reconstruction of part of Interstate 29 in Fargo, paving and bridge work on Interstate 94 near South Heart, widening and replacing the deck on a railroad bridge in Fargo and work on U.S. 83 in Minot and just north of Max.
Ziegler also said nearly 335 miles of county road improvements are planned and 12 county bridges will be replaced.
