SCRA honors companies for safety efforts

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) has announced the winners of the Fleet Safety, Fleet Safety Improvement and Zero Accident awards.

The winners were honored during the organization’s recent annual conference.

The contests are part of SC&RA's ongoing effort to encourage its motor carrier members to transport, lift and erect oversize/overweight items safely.

Four SC&RA member companies received a Fleet Safety Award for having the lowest accident frequency rate in different mileage categories:

• Over 50 million miles: Landstar System Inc., Jacksonville, Fla.

• 5 Million to 20 Million Miles: Miller Transfer & Rigging Co., Rootstown, Ohio

• 1.5 Million to 5 Million Miles: Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental, Milwaukee, Wis.

• 100,000 to 1.5 Million Miles: KMX International, Reading, Pa.

Five SC&RA member companies received a Zero Accident Award for having no recordable injuries during all of 2007. They included Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental, Milwaukee; George Young Installations PR, Humacao, Puerto Rico; Install Inc., Sanford, N.C.; KMX International, Reading, Pa., and Robinson Cartage Company, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Ten companies earned a Fleet Safety Improvement Award by showing a reduction in their accident frequency rate for miles traveled, compared to their previous year accident frequency rate. They included Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental, Milwaukee; George Young Co., Philadelphia; Landstar Gemini, Landstar Inway Inc. and Landstar Ligon Inc., all of Jacksonville, Fla.;

LoneStar Transportation Inc., Fort Worth, Texas; Miller Transfer & Rigging Co., Rootstown, Ohio;

Robinson Cartage Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.; W.O. Grubb Crane Rental Inc., Richmond, Va., and

Whitewood Transport, Billings, Mont.
