WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Truckers and other motorists traveling on Interstate 40 or Interstate 55 in the West Memphis area should expect delays beginning May 19 and continuing through May 22.

A contractor for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will stop traffic on the interstates for 30 minute intervals between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

each evening.  The delays are necessary so crews can install new overhead message boards.

The stoppages on May 19 will be located in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 between the Mississippi River Bridge and the Riverside weigh station.

On May 20, eastbound traffic on Interstate 40 will be stopped just west of the Airport Road Exit.

On Interstate 55, southbound traffic near the Bridgeport weigh station will be stopped on May 21.  Northbound Interstate 55 traffic will be stopped on May 22 between the Mississippi River Bridge and the Bridgeport weigh station.

Single lane closures will begin each night at 8 p.m. in these areas to prepare for the work even though the total traffic stoppage won’t begin until 11 p.m.
