WASHINGTON — The federal government reports that about two-thirds of young drivers killed in car crashes at night in 2006 were not wearing seat belts.
U.S. transportation officials said Monday they plan to emphasize the importance of young drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 wearing their seat belts during the annual "click it or ticket" campaign.
Law enforcement officials will be increasing their work to enforce seat belt laws during the next two weeks surrounding the Memorial Day holiday.
A new government report finds 68 percent of drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 who were killed in car crashes at night were unbuckled.
