WASHINGTON — Employees of Volvo Trucks North America, Freightliner and Mack Trucks Inc. this Memorial Day weekend will again pay tribute to the sacrifices made by U.S. armed forces by participating in the national Rolling Thunder — Ride for Freedom motorcycle rally in Washington.
As in past years, employees will gather at the United Auto Workers Local 2069 Union Hall in Dublin, Va., near the Volvo New River Valley Plant, at 8 a.m. Saturday for the memorial ceremony, which is usually attended by several hundred people.
Afterwards, some 200 riders will attend the rally in the nation’s capital, accompanied by a specially decorated Volvo VN 670.
The VN 670 features custom murals honoring the sacrifices of military personnel and promoting the wounded Warrior Project, a national effort to raise awareness and support for the needs of men and women wounded in the service of their country. (For more information, go to www.woundedwarrior.org).
The truck was developed by NRV in conjunction with UAW Local 2069’s Veterans Committee.
