American Background launches DOT-compliant screening service

New DOT employee screening unveiled by American Background Information Services

The Trucker News Services

5/23/2008

WINCHESTER, Va. American Background Information Services Inc. (ABI), a provider of employment screening services today launched a comprehensive Department of Transportation (DOT) suite of services.

Specifically designed to support clients in the transportation sector, ABI's DOT services provide employers with effective, time-saving employment screening solutions.

ABI's DOT solutions focus on the trucking and other industries subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, particularly 49 CFR Parts 40, 382, and 391. These regulations include DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing programs; evaluation of driver qualifications; and eligibility to perform safety-sensitive duties.

ABI's comprehensive, DOT-compliant services include:

Commercial Drivers' License Information System (CDLIS) search

Motor vehicle record searches (pre-employment & annual)

Previous employment and safety performance history verification

Drug and alcohol testing history verification

Breath alcohol screening, including random selection, and

Urine drug screening, including random selection.

In today's legal climate, an organization's inconsistent and undocumented decision making can increase its exposure to claims of discrimination, penalties, criminal offenses, and even closure of business.

To reduce the burden placed on DOT-regulated employers and their safety

departments or designated employee representatives, ABI is also offering

DOT Risk Scoring services. Risk Scoring allows the employer to evaluate the

screening elements that could potentially disqualify an applicant or

employee from operating a commercial motor vehicle or performing other

safety-sensitive duties. As a result, clients are able to prioritize and

manage their responsibilities efficiently to ensure compliance with DOT

requirements.
