TEMPLE, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will temporarily close busy Interstate 35 northbound and southbound at the intersection of I-35 and South Loop 363 in Temple from 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, to 7 a.m. Thursday, May 29.

A second closure is tentatively scheduled from Thursday, May 29, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008.

A third closure is tentatively scheduled from 10 p.m. Sunday, June 1 to 7 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008.

A fourth closure may be necessary and is also tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 2,

7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008.   All are weather permitting.

The temporary closures will allow construction crews to remove the existing eastbound and westbound South Loop 363 bridges, as part of the interchange reconstruction project currently underway, at that location.

Northbound and southbound I-35 traffic will be temporarily detoured to the frontage roads at Exit 299 and back to the interstate at the next entrance.  Eastbound and westbound loop traffic will temporarily detour via 57th Street and Midway Drive respectively in order to avoid the work site.

The Temple Police Department will assist with local traffic control through the work zone.

TxDOT advises motorists on both I-35 and South Loop 363 in Temple to avoid the area, if possible.  Heavy congestion and delays should be expected during the overnight hours of these temporary closures.
