Rockfall causes I-90 lane closures west of Snoqualmie Pass

A rockfall has cut I-90 eastbound traffic from four lanes to two lanes approaching Snoqualmie Pass from the west.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — Interstate 90 is down to two eastbound lanes just west of Snoqualmie Pass because of a rockfall.

State transportation officials say about a pickup truck load of rock came down late Monday half a mile west of the summit. Nobody was injured, but at least two cars and a tractor-trailer rig were damaged when they hit the rocks.

State Transportation Department crews have cleared some of the rocks, some as large as a foot and a half in diameter, and an emergency contractor has been chosen to make repairs and stabilize the slope.

The disruption has cut eastbound traffic from four lanes to two lanes approaching the summit from the west. Westbound traffic has not been affected.
