BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Transportation Department says delays are likely this weekend on I-5 through Bellingham as lanes are closed for road repairs.

Bellingham is located in far northwest Washington state, some 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border.

The department says midday traffic Saturday and Sunday could back up for several miles in both directions and take a least 30 minutes.

Transportation officials hope this will be the last weekend closure in a $4.5 million project to replace cracked concrete panels.

Freeway lanes are scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. Monday.
