Diesel drops by more than 4 cents

The EIA reported a drop in the cost of diesel of at least 2 cents across the country.

Weekly retail on-highway diesel prices dropped 4.4 cents a gallon for the national average today, while in the Gulf Coast region, the drop was down 5.4 cents a gallon from what prices were a week ago in that area ($4.602 today vs. $4.656 on June 16).

Every region reported on by the Energy Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy showed a drop of at least 2 cents, and every little bit helps.

But what would cheer truckers’ hearts even more would be a steady price decline from now on, something oil experts say isn’t going to happen.

In the Golden State, California truckers were seeing prices right under $5 a gallon ($4.922), but that was still 4.7 cents lower than last week’s $4.969.

The Midwest region saw prices dip 4.4 cents a gallon, to $4.574, down from $4.618 the week before.

See below for prices in the rest of the nation.
