CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia's Division of Motor Vehicles is giving truckers help with soaring diesel fuel prices.
The agency said June 3 it's delaying the due date for the $1,132.75 annual registration payments for most trucks until Sept. 1. Normally the payments are due July 1.
Gov. Joe Manchin's office says the extension will help truckers manage expenses. Spokeswoman Lara Ramsburg says diesel prices are hitting truckers more than average drivers.
According to AAA, diesel averages $4.85 a gallon in West Virginia, compared with $4.78 nationally.
Steve Dale from the DMV says the delay affects about 50,000 trucks. While it might cost the state a little interest, Dale says the agency still figures to get about $56.6 million from registrations.
