GREAT BEND, Kan. — Doonan Specialized Trailer LLC has acquired the assets of Chaparral Manufacturing Inc.

Doonan Specialized Trailer, headquartered in Great Bend, Kan., has been building trailers since 1973 and produced more than 700 units in 2007. Doonan has a niche market of highly specialized platform trailers including custom flatbeds, drop decks and double drops.

Chaparral has been producing a line of all-aluminum platform trailers in Moundridge, Kan., about 70 miles southeast of Great Bend, since 1986.

According to Mike Gordy, co-manager of Doonan Specialized Trailer LLC, “the relocation of the Moundridge facility will be complete by the end of May and we are truly excited that 30 percent of the Chaparral team will join us in this transition.”

Elgen Reynolds, co-manager of Doonan, added that the acquisition “of the Chaparral brand allows us to provide our customers with a complete product offering of all-steel and all-aluminum flatbeds, drop decks and double drop trailers.”
