FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A southbound section of Interstate 95 in southern Cumberland County will be closed for two nights to prepare the road to be repaved.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that the closure on Wednesday and Thursday nights affects a section between mile markers 46 and 39 — the area between where N.C. 87 crosses I-95 and the Cumberland-Robeson county line.

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto U.S. 301 between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Workers from the N.C. Department of Transportation are preparing the road for repaving. The northbound lanes were prepped last month. The repaving will be done one side at a time in a few weeks. The interstate will again be closed at night with traffic detoured onto U.S. 301 during that time.

The highway department plans to gradually repave all of I-95 in Cumberland and Harnett counties over the next year.
