PORTLAND, Ore. — Ever wondered what motor carrier enforcement officers and inspectors are looking for when they are inspecting your truck?
Truckers in Oregon can find out in a non-regulatory setting when the Oregon Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Transportation Division offers voluntary truck inspections July 18-19 at seven locations around the state.
Division Safety Program Manager David McKane said inspectors will check that truck drivers have valid CDLs and medical cards and they’ll carefully check the mechanical condition of each truck and trailer, all subject to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection criteria. Vehicles passing the inspection will be issued a CVSA inspection decal that represents a stamp of approval good for three months.
Each safety inspection may take up to 30 minutes, so to manage the workload, MCTD is requiring that truckers make an appointment.
Inspections will be offered from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the following MCTD locations:
