BOSTON — The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority has further tightened its belt by trimming 28 jobs in a move expected to save the agency about $1 million.

Authority director Alan LeBovidge says among the cuts were 10 tourist information clerks making about $46,000 annually and a director of environmental services making nearly $94,000 annually.

LeBovidge says he will leave another 28 jobs unfilled that were funded in the last budget.

He says the next move is to look at toll takers and see how many the agency needs.

LeBovidge has eliminated 62 jobs from the cash-strapped agency since he was hired buy Gov. Deval Patrick last year.

He says his goal is to show the Legislature that he's "running a tight ship."
