GREEN BAY, Wis. — Schneider National has been selected as a top intermodal provider for Nestlé USA., the nation’s largest truckload carrier reported Wednesday. Nestlé recently consolidated its North American network of intermodal suppliers and selected Schneider as one of its two primary intermodal providers.
In its new expanded role, Schneider Intermodal will move goods from North American manufacturing plants to specific Nestlé distribution centers across the United States, including Mira Loma, Calif., DeKalb, Ill., Breinigsville, Pa., Forth Worth, Texas, and McDonough, Ga. Schneider’s operational expertise and vast coverage capabilities in Intermodal drayage will be critical to the overall success of the Nestlé Intermodal program, according to a Schneider news release.
“We selected Schneider as one of our main intermodal carriers because of the success we’ve had with them over the past 20 years,” said Joe Lombardo, group manager, Transportation Logistics, Nestlé USA. “They possess their own containers and trailers, which means they are well-positioned to help us optimize our trailer pools. In addition, Schneider’s use of technology allows us to haul more freight using less manpower while still achieving the easy, door-to-door service Nestlé prides itself on.”
Headquartered in Green Bay, Wis., Schneider National is a $3.4 billion company which employs 21,400 worldwide, including operations in North America, Europe and Asia.
Nestlé USA, with 2007 sales of $8.25 billion is part of Nestlé S.A. in Vevey, Switzerland—the world’s largest food company—with 2007 sales of $90 billion.
