A truck may have struck the lines that were already sagging across I-74.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — A busy stretch of Interstate 74 southeast of Indianapolis has been closed for hours due to downed power lines.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Department communications officer Will White said early Wednesday morning that there was no estimate of when the highway would reopen. Repair crews are on the scene.

All lanes have been closed between State Road 9 and I-465 since about 10 p.m. Tuesday and traffic is being rerouted around the area.

White said it’s not clear what caused the lines to fall. He said a truck may have struck the lines that were already sagging across the interstate.
