Diesel drops a few cents to $4.718

Diesel drops slightly after small jump last week.

After a $0.037 increase last week, diesel dropped $0.046 this week when the weekly retail on-highway price per gallon was $4.718, a jump of $1.829 a gallon from the same week a year ago, according to the Energy Information Administration.

All regions showed a slight drop in the price per gallon. The New England (-$0.020) and Central Atlantic (-$0.043) regions both topped the chart at $4.869, with the least expensive average showing up in the Midwest (-$0.049) where a gallon of diesel was $4.649.

California dropped out of the $5 range with a price per gallon of $4.964, down $0.062. California hit $5.001 July 7 and $5.026 July 14 before dropping.
