NEW YORK — Patrick E. Quinn, co-chairman and president of U.S. Xpress Enterprises Inc., is among leaders from the freight sector who are speaking at the Faster Freight – Cleaner Air (FFCA) Conference being held today in New York City. Quinn also is commissioner of the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission.

Leaders from all sectors of the freight mobility and goods movement industries are convening at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City with an expected attendance of 500.

The conference will offer “groundbreaking information on efficiencies in transportation, energy needs and pricing, and the very latest in green goods movement technologies,” stated a news release on the event.

Some examples include, fuel cell powered tug boats and cargo ships, magnetic levitating container movement systems, alternative fuel trucks, and other advanced technology equipment and fuels designed to yield faster freight and cleaner air.

The three-day summit will showcase solutions and resources that improve operations and reduce air emissions and the carbon footprint of the goods movement industry.

With the Panama Canal expansion project now underway, FFCA East Coast will focus upon the growing demands for an improved national infrastructure and expanded rail and trucking services to accommodate the near-term port growth that will be fueled by the expanded all-water route from Asia, according to the release.

This event is hosted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New York City Department of Transportation, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Running through July 10 , the summit will include two-days of plenary sessions; breakout sessions focusing on on-road trucking, marine, rail and cargo handling operations; a technology tradeshow; and exciting off-site tours of the region's largest cargo facilities in New York and New Jersey.
