Preventative maintenance has helped to provide an efficient, reliable, and safe fleet from one of Canada’s leading freight transporters. That, and reliance on the Kendall Motor Oil brand by ConocoPhillips Lubricants.

Cam-Scott Transport Ltd., located in Pickering, Ontario, has been a dominant force within the fleet industry since opening in 1985.  Glenn Weddel, the second generation president of this family owned and operated business specializing in the transportation of contracted loads of temperature sensitive goods all over eastern Canada, has worked to build a company that prides itself on dependable and reliable service.  Due mainly to customer loyalty and a strong team, Weddel was recently able to introduce Cam-Scott International, expanding the business to delivering fresh, frozen and dry goods throughout Canada and the United States.

Garage Manager, Brian Gilroy and his team of licensed mechanics personally maintain the fleet of over 132 tractors, 48-foot and 53-foot refrigerated trailers and straight trucks at Cam-Scott’s on-site service facility.  This fleet of specialized equipment travels more than 112,000 miles per year; therefore, it is vital that Cam-Scott practice a stringent maintenance program.

Over the past two decades, Cam-Scott has created and perfected a highly efficient way of prolonging engine life that also increases productivity, decreases manual labor time, saves money, and overall proves to be much better for the environment.  This KLEEN Oil System, which employs an extra filter, also catches water to avoid acid build up that can damage the bearings.

Utilizing a combination of the internally developed KLEEN Oil System and the high-quality Kendall product, Cam-Scott has had success with changing oil and fuel filters at every 12,500 miles.  At this time, they also do a full inspection of the vehicle, tend to any noticeable problems, and extract an oil sample for testing.  Every 50,000 miles, Gilroy replaces all of the oil and filters.

“This is a fool-proof method that has never resulted in bearing failure caused by bad oil,” said Gilroy.  “We have witnessed excellent engine lives in excess of 1.05 million miles without ever working on the bearings.”

Maintaining Cam-Scott’s fleet of equipment has not always been easy.  When oil analysis tests from other brands came back with poor results and engines were breaking down, Cam-Scott knew they had to make some serious changes within their existing programs.  The company was losing significant amounts of money and productivity levels were suffering.   At that time, two of the most crucial decision-making factors for Cam-Scott included maintenance simplicity and company costs.  RP Oil Ltd. helped to solve those problems and Cam-Scott made the decision to switch to the Kendall Motor Oil brand.
