DALLAS — No driver, company, or fleet wants the down time, aggravation and tremendous costs associated with a blown tire. And, no one these days can afford the higher cost of fuel involved in running with improper tire pressure.

Enter L&S Safety Solutions’ LLC’s newest tire pressure monitoring technology, which includes an “Intelligent Monitor” which displays up to 64 wheel locations on a tractor and up to three trailers (three individual trailers or a triple).

The monitor has the capability to receive and communicate information and allows programming of sensors remotely with Web-based telematics technology, noted Duane Sprague, president of L&S, at the Great American Trucking Show here.

“The new offerings include the addition of RS232 communications capabilities as well as an upper pressure alert and temperature readout capability. The upper variable alert is set at the factory to alert at 24 percent high but can also be set at 10 percent to 45 percent increments over the set point.

“In addition to the upper alert, there are two lower alerts: one at 12.5 percent and a second alert at 25 percent below the initial set point,” Sprague added.

With RS232 capability, the temperature can be displayed when used with a tire management software program. And, “the Drop and Hook TPMS technology is now available for fleets, which provides the driver with information on tire pressures for the tractor and trailer tires,” he said in reference to the “Intelligent Monitor” system.

Physical installation takes an estimated 40 minutes; programming takes about 25 minutes. The “Intelligent Monitor” can be programmed by satellite with no driver involvement. The estimated cost for one tractor-trailer is from $1,500 to $2,000, depending on the type of tires and other variables (super singles cut the price). The “intelligent” repeater is mounted on the underside of the trailer, with the monitor mounted in the cab. For Radio Frequency signals the extended antenna is mounted on the tractor.

“L&S Safety Solutions is particularly excited about several additions to our current product line and the introduction of new products to our PressurePro Truck Products,” Sprague said.
