KOHLER, Wis. — Kohler Power Systems is bringing its second auxiliary power unit (APU) product to the market with its 7APU generator and climate control package.
The KOHLER 7APU is billed as one of the highest powered APUs on the market today, and features a stand-alone design that doesn’t require intrusion into the truck’s other systems when being installed. It provides 120-volts of AC and 45-Amps of DC power, enough to run heating and cooling, charge the truck’s battery, and run a variety of electronic equipment such as TVs, microwaves and a block heater.
This side-rail mounted APU provides 6.5kW output, weighs less than 540 pounds and measures at 26" W x 29" H x 24” D (from frame rail). Both Kohler APU systems are supported by a Kohler national distributor and dealer network of over 400 locations.
Quiet operation: A custom sound-attenuated enclosure allows the Kohler 7APU to operate at 71 dBA at full load.
• Fuel consumption: During typical operation, the Kohler 7APU will burn approximately 0.3 gallons/hour, according to the manufacturer.
• Heating/Cooling: Kohler offers two different HVAC options with the 7APU that both provide 14,000 BTUs/hour of cooling and 2.5 kW of electric heating capacity. Truckers can choose from a remote, split HVAC system (shown at left) or a self-contained unit .
• Powerful engine performance: Powered by a liquid-cooled, 13.1 horsepower diesel engine (60Hz); two-cylinder, 2600 rpm, 686 cc displacement. The engine is certified by the EPA to conform to the current Tier 4 emissions regulations.
• Digital Control: A compact, integrally mounted in-cab controller features a digital keypad and display that shows run-time hours and up to six operational conditions (i.e., engine temperature, oil pressure, overspeed/underspeed, etc).
Kohler products are on a display in booth #9025 at the Great American Trucking Show.
