Diesel nudges down closer to $4-a-gallon mark

National weekly on-highway diesel prices got closer today to the $4-a-gallon mark, with the average settling at $4.023, down 3.6 cents from a week ago, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the federal Department of Energy, reported.

All but one reporting region experienced a decrease: the Lower Atlantic segment was the only area to report an increase, and it was only up a little above a penny at 1.3 cents or $4.031 a gallon, compared with $4.018 this time last week.

The Central Atlantic states were seeing a decrease of 8 cents — $4.166 today compared with the price a week ago of $4.246.

Truckers traveling through New England also saw a nice decline at the pumps, down 6.6 cents (to $4.246 compared with $4.312 on Sept. 8.

Rocky Mountain diesel went down 6.4 cents, resting at $4.041 today compared with $4.105 a week ago.

The Midwest region saw at-the-pump diesel slide 4.2 cents to below the $4-a-gallon mark, at $3.973, compared with $4.015 the week before.
