NEWBERN, Va. — Southbound traffic on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County will be cut to one lane until mid-November while a bridge is repaired.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says it will close one of the southbound lanes at mile marker 97 Wednesday night.

The agency says it also will close Route 611 to keep traffic from passing beneath the bridge during the repairs. Traffic will be detoured onto Route 643, also known as Cougar Trail, and F-047, a frontage road.

An overweight vehicle hit the bridge on August 26. DLB Inc. was awarded a $272,810 emergency repair contract to fix the damage.
