PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is laying off 115 employees, mostly Motor Vehicle Division workers.
ADOT Director John Halikowski said Wednesday the layoffs being made this week and by year’s end are among cost-cutting moves to respond to a funding reduced by declining fuel tax collections and budget-balancing transfers.
The department is closing most rest areas and a dozen MVD offices as well as reducing highway maintenance.
ADOT says its work force has now been reduced by 480, or about 10 percent of the total.
