Some state departments of transportation are suspending road work to help ease holiday travel conditions for the Fourth of July weekend.
Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development is urging extra caution amid heavy July 4 traffic and noted that one major construction project will be suspended beginning Friday. Work on Interstate 12 in East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes will halt Friday through Sunday, though speed limits remain reduced to 45 miles per hour in the construction zone.
Information about projects around the state are available at the agency's Web site by clicking here.
Road closures and other details also are available through the 511 system, which can be accessed by dialing 511 on a telephone or at on the Internet www.511la.org.
Travelers also are getting some traffic relief in Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says it's suspending some construction-related lane closures. Lanes will be reopened Thursday to Sunday.
But not all travelers will luck out.
Some construction projects mean several lanes still will have to be closed over the holiday.
Illinois transportation officials are warning motorists to drive the posted speed limit in construction zones and to not drink and drive.
