NILES, Ill. The Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) Endowment Committee has named Virginia-based American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) a second-time recipient of its annual Endowment Fund Grant in the amount of $4,200. ATRI will be recognized at an Oct. 29 ceremony during TIDA’s 2009 Annual Seminar in San Antonio, Tex.

With a membership of more than 1,400 trucking professionals, TIDA was founded in 1993 as a national organization committed to actions and activities that promote safety and reduce costs to the trucking industry. Members include motor carriers, transportation logistics companies, insurers of motor carriers, third party claims administrators and defense counsel.

“We’re delighted to provide our Endowment Fund Grant to ATRI once again this year,” Paul Berne, TIDA endowment committee chair and previous TIDA president, said. “They have played a critical role in researching safety issues related to the trucking industry, and we look forward to their continued efforts.”

ATRI, part of the American Trucking Associations Federation, is a 501(c) (3) charitable institute whose primary mission is to conduct research in the field of transportation, with an emphasis on the trucking industry's essential role in safe, efficient, and viable transportation systems.

“We are gratified by the continued recognition of the important work we do to improve the industry’s safety. The grant will allow ATRI to move forward with several studies which industry stakeholders have identified as priorities,” said Rebecca Brewster, President and Chief Operating Officer of ATRI.

Working on behalf of motor carriers across the country, TIDA members develop strategies and share knowledge to defend the trucking industry in personal injury, property damage, worker’s compensation and cargo claims.

“ATRI is an exceptional organization and we’re thrilled to award this grant to advance critical research which promotes safety and loss control for and on behalf of the trucking industry,” James Dill, president of TIDA, said. “The industry clearly benefits when decisions are made based on the credible research and sound data provided by ATRI.”

TIDA’s 17th Annual Industry Seminar will be held Oct. 28-30 at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter in San Antonio, Tex., and will feature an Oct. 28 golf outing and special industry educational breakout sessions.

This year’s conference, “Solutions for Tough Economic Times,” will offer attendees presentations on the MCS 90; cargo theft and security issues; medicare set aside trusts; CSA 2010; solutions to loading docks and an industry member open discussion on trucking claims and litigation.
