SEATTLE — The Washington Transportation Department says avalanche control work on Interstate 90 across Snoqualmie Pass and a snow slide on U.S. Highway 2 across Stevens Pass interrupted travel Tuesday night across two main Cascade Mountain crossings.

Officials said they completed avalanche control work at one spot on I-90 only to find that additional work was needed at multiple locations due to increasing rainfall and rising temperatures.

Late Tuesday night, officials said Stevens Pass would remained closed until morning, when they will assess it for danger to Transportation Department crews and the public.
