INDIANAPOLIS — Celadon Trucking Services Inc. has agreed to purchase a portion of the operating equipment of Robinson Transport, Inc., based in Columbus, Ohio, Celadon Group Inc. reports. The terms and conditions of the transaction were not disclosed. Celadon’s approach in this transaction is to increase its density in its traffic lanes in and out of the Midwest and reinforce its driver pool, the company said.

Robinson provides truckload shipments in and out of the Midwest, which enables Celadon to increase its freight volumes and lane density in one of its primary freight lanes.

“Robinson is a highly respected truckload carrier that has provided a high level of service for its customers over the years, which is demonstrated by the number of service awards it has received,” said Celadon Trucking President and COO Paul Will. “Their footprint has tremendous potential to supplement our existing business, expand our network coverage and further accelerate our overall growth plans. We believe we can enhance the service to many of Robinson’s former customers through upgraded equipment, advanced technology, additional assets available for dispatch, and an industry leading safety record."

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to join such a financially strong and highly recognized carrier,” said Robinson. “This opportunity allows me to remain intimately involved with our loyal customer partners, as we transition the business I have developed and cultivated over the past 22 years. At the same time, Celadon’s expanded service offering and larger fleet will allow us to better service these customers and create additional opportunities for growth.”

Celadon Group Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides long-haul and regional full-truckload freight service across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company also owns Celadon Logistics Services, which provides freight brokerage services, less-than-truckload services, as well as supply chain management solutions, including warehousing and dedicated fleet services.
