WALCOTT, IOWA – Truckers who travel Interstate 80 rejoice.
There’ll soon be more parking available at Iowa 80 Truckstop.
Iowa 80, which is the nation’s largest truckstop, is in the process of adding 110 more parking spaces.
The expanded truck parking lot will be north of the truckstop near the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum and Iowa 80 Group/CAT Scale Headquarters Office.
Dirt work has already begun on the project which is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

“We want to make sure that our customers have plenty of safe, well-lit truck parking spaces,” says Delia Moon Meier, Iowa 80 senior vice president. “It’s important they know we will always have a space for them.”
The new truck parking spaces will bring Iowa 80 Truckstop’s total truck parking capacity to just over 900.
Truck parking is a major issue along the nation’s highways with truckers commonly reporting they start looking for a place to parking as early as 4 p.m. each day.
The new surface transportation bill, MAP-21, addresses the issue.
It requires the Department of Transportation, in consultation with state motor carrier safety staff, to conduct a survey of each state’s commercial vehicle parking capabilities and needs by April 1, 2014.
