Tango, YRC among top Walmart Transportation partners

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart Transportation has recognized 11 trucking and transportation partners as Carriers of the Year.

Walmart awards the designation each year to companies who provide logistical support to the retailer’s stores, Sam’s Club locations and distribution facilities.

“We are fortunate to hold strong partnerships with many exceptional carriers at Walmart,” said Ken Braunbach, senior director of transportation for Walmart. “A number of considerations were made when determining the award recipients but, ultimately, each of them demonstrated a dedication to customer service, operational excellence and an ability to offer creative supply chain solutions that set them apart from their peers.”

The Walmart Carriers of the Year, for services provided during 2012 include:

• General Merchandise Gold — Tango Transport

• General Merchandise Platinum — Heartland Express

• Grocery Dedicated — Swift Transportation

• Intermodal Hub Group National LTL — YRC Freight

• Regional LTL — Averitt Express

• Sam's Club — Heartland Express

• Small Parcel — FedEx Corp.

• Temperature Controlled Gold — Jim Palmer Trucking

• Temperature Controlled Platinum — C.R. England

• Diversity — Barr-Nunn Transportation

• Innovative Excellence in Transportation — J.B. Hunt Transport Inc.

 (Gold and platinum designations are relative to fleet size, smallest to largest, respectively.)

 “There are many operational challenges and financial pressures that exist within the transportation industry today. Braunbach. “These carrier partners’ ability to rise above these obstacles plays a vital role in Walmart’s mission to provide customers the things they need, when they want them and at a price they can afford,” Braunbach said.

Gorman, chairman of Tango Transport, said. “We know that each person within our organization, both behind the wheel and behind the desk, is “Driven to Satisfy” all of our customers and it is their hard work that made this award possible.

Kusiciel and Braunbach wrote in a letter to YRC Freight, "Walmart's ultimate goal is to provide retail customers with the products they need in a timely manner so that they can save money and live better. Meeting this goal would be nearly impossible without the assistance from exemplary transportation groups such as YRC Freight."
