Jefferson Lines bus crashes in woods after driver falls asleep

The bus driver told Arkansas State Police that he fell asleep at the wheel, causing the bus to crash into the wooded area.

Y CITY, Ark. — A Jefferson Lines bus ran off U.S. Highway 71 near this west Arkansas town Feb. 6 and crashed into a wooded area about 5:30 a.m..

No major injuries were reported.

About 30 people were on the bus, which was on a regular run between Kansas City and Texarkana, Ark.

Seven were taken to a hospital in Mena, Ark., about 16 miles south of the crash scene.

The bus driver told Arkansas State Police that he fell asleep at the wheel, causing the bus to crash into the wooded area.

No other vehicles were involved, and no children were on the bus at the time of the accident, police said.

Y-City is located about 60 miles south of Fort Smith, Ark.
