Crews evaluating I-40 overpass damage at NLR

The Associated Press

3/8/2013

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — State highway workers are evaluating the condition of an overpass across Interstate 40 in North Little Rock, where a man died when his truck exploded after hitting a concrete support.

The state highway department said Friday that crews are using hydraulic jacks to stabilize the bridge but it is still not open to traffic.

The Thursday crash killed the driver of the truck, who was badly burned. Traffic was snarled for hours.

The highway department says traffic is moving normally along I-40 but crews installed a barrier wall along the westbound lane near the bridge.

It's not yet known when the Young Road overpass will reopen to traffic.
