Section of I-35 northbound lanes shut down in Iowa
The Associated Press
MARTENSDALE, Iowa — Workers have begun tearing down a damaged section of a bridge over Interstate 35 in Warren County, and officials hope to reopen the freeway's northbound lanes by Friday morning.
A stretch of the northbound freeway has been closed since Monday night, when a truck hauling construction equipment smashed into the bridge. The accident made the bridge too unstable to drive beneath.
KCCI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/13MV1n2 ) crews were tearing down damaged parts of the bridge Wednesday and hope to be finished in order to reopen the freeway Friday.
Until then, traffic will be rerouted through several small towns until returning to I-35 near West Des Moines.
Driver Ronald Gage of Waterloo was cited for violating height requirements in the incident. He wasn't seriously injured.
